Reviewing and releasing grades
Check each AI grade, change any score or comment, then release grades to students and parents.
Updated October 20, 2026
Every AI grade waits for you. Until you release it, only you can see it: the student sees their essay as Submitted, and parents see nothing yet. In an essay's Submissions, each graded student shows Not released or Released, and the count at the top tells you how many are waiting.
Check a grade
Click a graded student to see their essay beside the result: the grade, points for each criterion, and the summary, strengths, weaknesses and grammar notes.
- Edit grade: change the score or comment for any criterion, and the overall summary. You can also change the Strengths, Weaknesses, How to improve and Grammar and writing notes that students see. The total and letter grade update as you type.
- Re-grade with AI: grade it again from scratch. The new grade replaces the old one and goes back to waiting for you, even if you'd released the old one.
- Grade it yourself: on an essay that isn't graded yet, score each criterion by hand instead of using AI.
Release grades
Click Release to and the student's name to release one grade, or Release grades at the top of Submissions to release every graded essay that's waiting. Students and their linked parents see a grade as soon as it's released.
What students see
In Essays, a graded essay shows the score, a Rubric Breakdown with comments for each criterion, and Overall Feedback, What You Did Well, Areas That Need Work, How to Improve and Grammar & Writing Notes.
Their Grades page brings quiz and essay scores together, with their overall, quiz and essay averages. Linked parents see the same released grades in the parent portal.
